Own your own Mesa!! You literally can become one of two private landowner on the mesa bordering BLM on the west and state to the North. Build a road to the top and have the views of Mt. Taylor, Mt Sedgewick and the Malpais National Monument all from your front and back door. Not to mention with a parcel this size you won't have to worry about any neighbors right on top of you. Land parcels like this don't become available very often.Flat top mesa with predominantly blue grama grass and three awn grasses on top. Sloped mesa sides with volcanic exposures with variety of vegetation to include juniper, grama, western wheat and other native grasses. Soils are mostly clay soils. Mount Taylor is a massive, extinct volcano located about 50 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico near the town of Grants. The mountain stands by itself in the vast high desert region of Northwestern New Mexico, so the views from the summit are spectacular. Because the area around Mount Taylor is very sparsely populated, a trip into the Mount Taylor region quickly makes you forget about civilization. Mount Taylor is located in what is known as the Zuni region of New Mexico, a region rich with culture from the many surrounding pueblo indian tribes. Mount Taylor is regarded by the Navajo as one of four sacred mountains. Once you stand on its summit and take in the incredible views, you will understand why. For miles you can see the scattered remnants of this once giant mountain. Mount Taylor is not technically challenging. The standard route, the Gooseberry Springs Trail, is a simple, pleasant three or four mile hike to the summit with only about 2,000 feet of elevation gain. In fact, the trail is also known as a fun, challenging single track for mountain bikers. The summit of the mountain is not above treeline, but much of the hike is on open slopes that yield excellent views. The mountain is popular with backcountry skiers in winter after a good snowfall. Absent any major snowfall, though, one can hike the mountain in winter and only encounter scattered patches of snow. Mount Taylor is also the site of the annual Mount Taylor Quadrathlon, a grueling race involving running, biking, skiing, and snowshoeing. If you are into running Ultras then you can't miss the Mt. Taylor 50k that happens every September. Grants is a city in New Mexico that began as a railroad camp in the 1880s when three Canadian brothers - Angus, John, and Lewis Grant - were awarded a contract to build a section of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad through the region. The Grant brothers' camp was first called Grants Camp, then Grants Station, and finally Grants. The new city was a part of the existing colonial New Mexican settlement of Los Alamitos and grew along the tracks of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad. Grants is a city in Cibola County, New Mexico, United States. It is located about 78 miles west of Albuquerque, home of the Albuquerque International Sunport. Grants, NM has its own airport as well. The population was 9,163 at the 2020 Census. It is the county seat of Cibola County. Gallup the ever-popular gateway to the Navajo Nation is 63 miles to the West. Grants is located along the Trails of the Ancients Byway, one of the designated New Mexico Scenic Byways. |
